How much does the program cost?
The class is free, and all low-income* people ages 16+ are encouraged to apply.
*Low income in Alameda County is defined as $109,600 for a family of 4.
What are the hours for the program every week?
The program is Tuesday and Thursday 6-9 pm PST and Saturday 9 - 1 pm PST. It requires a commitment of 15-20 hours a week, including 10 hours in class and 5-10 hours of weekly self-study.
Can I receive college credit for this program?
Participants can co-enroll in Merritt College and Oakland Adult and Career Education (OACE) and receive 5.5 college credits upon completion.
I don't have a computer and Internet access. Will ITbiz supply one?
Our partner OACE will loan Bay Area students a Chromebook and Hotspot to ensure everyone can access the curriculum.
My only technology experience is using the Internet, sending emails, and my phone. Can I do this?
YES! We are committed to teaching you about technology fundamentals and helping you to explore various career pathways in the technology industry. The tech industry has sales, marketing, customer service, project management, and engineering positions, and you can even pursue a pathway as a technology-infused small business. Our goal is to learn about your goals and support you in achieving them.
Does the program provide financial incentives?
We partner with programs and cities across the Bay Area to provide incentives and paid internships. As of January 2022, low-income, Hayward residents will receive $100 for every completed certificate and a paid internship. We are applying for funding with cities throughout the bay area to provide this opportunity to everyone.
Am I guaranteed a job after completing this program
We cannot guarantee a job. But 66% of the 2021 graduates received paid internships, apprenticeships, or placement. Our goal is to provide 100% of our graduates paid internships and progress at least 60% toward paid apprenticeships starting at $15 and progressing to $41 per hour.
